Selbie Hull was born April 29, 1942 and passed away August 22nd, 2020. Selbie was a long time resident of Novato, CA.
On the morning of August 22nd at 8:45am, Selbie lost her two year battle with Ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family at the moment she passed away, and thankfully she did not suffer.
Selbie was born at the Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley, California to James Watt Eadie and Francis Kidder.
Her father passed away in 1947 due to the Polio epidemic. Francis later married Robert Buetzow, whom she met while competitive roller skating. Robert and Francis had two children, giving Selbie two younger brothers, Graham and Mark. Robert adopted Selbie, making her Selbie Buetzow.
She attended El Cerrito High School, graduating in 1959 and completed her education at Contra Costa College.
Selbie met her first husband, Jon Lehman, and they were married Nov 17, 1962. She and Jon had two children. Their daughter Lisa was born In 1966 and later, their son Greg, was born in 1970. They lived in Kirkland, Washington until their divorce in 1976. At that time, Selbie made the brave decision to pack up herself and her kids and move to Novato, CA to be closer to her family and start a new life.
She and her kids lived in Novato and then later moved to Rohnert Park. Selbie got a job working for Fireman's Fund Insurance Company as an administrative assistant. During this time she met James Hull and together they shared a life traveling the world and seeing all the places far and wide. Whether it was trading homes with people in Scotland or England, cruising the Mediterranean Sea and visiting Rome and Athens or walking the streets of St. Petersburg, Russia. She and Jim shared experiences abroad that some of us can only dream about. In 1996, they married and she gained two more daughters, Tamara and Lara. She quickly earned their love and she became as much of a mother to them as to her own children. Fireman's Fund later became Amex Life Assurance Company, from which Selbie retired in 2000 as an Executive Secretary to the Vice President allowing them to continue their life of travel together.
When Selbie left this world to join her place in heaven, she left behind a husband, and four kids who loved her. Two son in laws, a daughter in law, eleven grandchildren, and a great grand daughter named Charlie. Her two brothers, Mark and Gray, and their wives, Linda and Blythe. Two nieces, three nephews and their seven children.
Selbie's life was very full of family and love. She was a great mother. A devoted wife, and a caring sister, who was always there to hold all the families together. She was a Christian, a lover of Christ and a friend to so many. She sung in the church choir at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for decades.
One thing I will always remember about my mom is that she loved to sing. I could always hear her voice no matter how many others were singing in the choir with her. She is now in heaven and I can still hear her singing. God Bless you mom. You are loved by us all.
