Jim was born on July 13, 1934 in Detroit, MI to the late Elmer and Jessie (Crowell) Dodson. He passed away on January 16, 2017. He served in the U.S. Army and later worked for the U.S. Post Office in Detroit. He loved to play golf and played with many excellent golfers throughout the U.S. during this time, including the late Arnold Palmer and Jackie Gleeson. He excelled in golf and won a number of awards and trophies as well as making several hole-in-ones. He married, divorced, and later re-married to Frances Rook and eventually moved to Poulsbo, WA in 1963 where he worked for the Poulsbo Golf Course as a Greenskeeper to significantly improve the course and he also coached the Poulsbo High School Golf team. Later he moved to Suquamish, WA and worked on Bainbridge Island as a maintenance man for the Bainbridge High School District while also working weekends and holidays at Meadow Muir Golf Course on Bainbridge where he improved a number of the fairways and greens such that it became a championship course. Jim and his wife Frances volunteered and received Certificates of Appreciation from Daniel J. Evans, then Governor of the State of Washington, for volunteer work in the Community Action Program. Later, Jim returned to the U.S. Post Office and worked as a maintenance person and eventually retired to Bremerton, WA where he regularly attended AA meetings and eventually chaired the meetings almost every day. Jim is survived by his son, Curt Dodson and his daughter, Rena Dodson. Jim is also survived by his siblings: Arleigh (Marion) Dodson, Ralph "Obie" (Becky) Dodson, Connie Dodson and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at the AA Hall (9th & Mckenzie Streets in Bremerton) on Saturday January 28, 2017 from 9:30AM to 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers or otherwise, memorials may be made to your charity of choice.
